Saltus Grammar School

From the Head of School ……

principal-saltusSaltus Grammmar School’s 128th year is well underway. After a modest start in 1888 with an enrolment of 35 boys in the Pembroke Sunday School at the corner of North and Angle Streets, Saltus has evolved into a dynamic two campus, coeducational school of 920 students.

The School’s motto of Labor Omni Vincit (Hard Work Conquers All) continues to instill in our faculty, staff and students the important value of determined effort in all their school and non-school activities.

This year’s School theme of ‘Perseverance’, chosen by our 10 Prefects, is closely associated with our motto. Whether it be raising funds for this year’s designated charities, St. Baldrick’s and The Salvation Army,  or developing an inspirational and creative advertising campaign for the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, Saltus teachers and students always go the extra-mile to achieve success.

Highlights of the year, thus far, include our annual Carols for All concert at St. John’s Church, the 10th year celebration of our first Foundation Year Programme at Cavendish, the Performing Arts Trip to New York, the International Independent Schools Public Speaking Competition in Toronto, Varsity Girls’ and Boys’ CAIS Football Tournaments in Canada, the Saltus Graduate Years Programme University Trips to Canadian and UK universities, the Secondary Science Fair, and Secondary production of Legally Blonde.

This vast range of diverse academic, athletic and extra-curricular activities provides our students with opportunities to expand their horizons and reach their full potential — none of these activities would have been possible without the commitment of the Saltus staff.  We are also grateful to have the support of our parents, Saltus Association, Trustees and alumni working together to provide an exceptional learning environment for our students.
